Lifelong Learning at FAU

OLLI Fort Lauderdale

COVID-19 Update as of August 2021

The FAU Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, Fort Lauderdale will deliver exciting programs in-person on our FAU Downtown Campus as well as via Zoom so our members will have the choice to either join us in the classroom or online from the convenience of wherever you are located.

Due to the surge in COVID-19 cases and the delta variant, all patrons regardless of vaccination status are expected to wear masks while indoors in any FAU facilities, including classrooms. Anyone exhibiting flu-like symptoms (coughing, fever, shortness of breath) will be asked to leave the classroom to support the safety and protection of the university community.

Message from the Associate Executive Director

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to Florida Atlantic University’s newest Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in Fort Lauderdale. Our two other Osher institutes on Boca and Jupiter campuses have more than twenty years of experience bringing exceptional educational programs to our South Florida community. In fact, FAU’s Osher institutes are the largest in the whole country! Now, you too can experience the quality of our programing in downtown Fort Lauderdale at our beautiful downtown FAU campus located at 111 East Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale.

Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), began with its successful first season in the Spring of 2019 with a mission to provide enriching educational experiences to adults of all ages through a diverse and creative curriculum. Taught by outstanding university faculty and guest lecturers, FAU’s OLLI is designed to broaden its students’ understanding of varied cultural, societal, scientific and global issues.

Our sister programs, Boca OLLI and Jupiter OLLI, began holding courses in community spaces in the 1990’s. Today they both have independent buildings on those campuses. Likewise, our program courses began at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and has transitioned to our FAU Downtown Campus. It is our goal to build a thriving program with a permanent location in the heart of Fort Lauderdale offering OLLI members and the community access to hundreds of university-level courses for learners of all backgrounds and interests spanning a broad range of topics which include foreign policy, music, art, history, science, literature, philosophy, current events, films, and health & wellness.

I want to express my special gratitude to the inaugural FAU OLLI Fort Lauderdale Board of Advisors for their enthusiasm and commitment to launching and growing our Institute in Broward County. This venture is a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven enterprise that in partnership with our state university, Florida Atlantic, is poised to grow and prosper for the benefit of people from all walks of life who enjoy engaging learning opportunities. If you would be interested in volunteering with our FAU OLLI FLL please be sure to let us know.

Be sure to become a member of FAU OLLI FLL for special discounts and other benefits, including access to our Boca and Jupiter programming. If you have any questions about our programs, please contact us at 561.297.0177 or send an email to ollifll@fau.edu.

We look forward to seeing you soon at OLLI Fort Lauderdale!
